Assistant Director, Advancement Systems & Operations • Candidate Briefing
Most operations hires are evaluated on which systems they've touched. I'd rather be evaluated on how I think, because the systems change every few years and the thinking is what transfers.
When I meet an established process, my instinct is archaeological — who built this, what were they solving for, and which assumptions have quietly expired. Most dysfunction isn't designed; it accumulates. I work at three focal lengths at once: the granular mechanics, the structural handoffs between departments, and what it costs a person to use a system that fights them. Thirteen years in advocacy and a working life at the piano taught me the same skill — hearing which signal matters and which noise is just crowding it.
Archaeology before architecture · Three focal lengths · Friction is data · Built, not borrowed
A Master of Social Work (MSW) systems practitioner and nonprofit operations leader with ten-plus years across advocacy, government, and housing. Resident pianist at The Jefferson Hotel since 2022.
“My background is broader than traditional advancement operations, and I have not yet administered Bloomerang. I do bring hands-on experience with EveryAction, Microsoft Office, reporting, process design, and cross-functional nonprofit operations.” — From cover letter, August 7, 2026
Five years of hands-on EveryAction work — constituent tagging, segmentation, outreach lists, and follow-up workflows. Bloomerang is new; the discipline isn't.
Built and tracked budget and policy strategy tied to the Virginia Housing Trust Fund allocation process at VHA — the same dollars-against-deadlines habit brought to Advancement–Finance.
Coordinated 55 General Assembly meetings for SCAN, 40+ public engagements for Senator Warner's office, and annual statewide conferences at VHA.
Resident grand pianist at The Jefferson Hotel and music instructor at School of Rock Midlothian, connecting authentically with patrons, musicians, and donors.
